Spring Break Assignment and April Homework

Tuesday, April 10: Assignment #108

Spring Break Assignment
1.) Complete the Architecture box sheet and questions. I am not reviewing this material, so it is your responsibility to finish the architecture from this chapter.
2.) Long Essay practice. Use the provided images, and complete a paragraph for each one, and include which category each artwork falls into. Make sure to talk about SUBJECT, STYLE, and SIGNFICANCE.
3.) Timeline review: Using the back of your sketchbook, complete the rest of your timeline. We left off at Renaissance, so you have from Baroque to 1990 to finish. It is only 2 sheets though!

Wednesday, April 11: Assignment #109

Venn Diagram- Architecture
Complete the handout for the Venn diagram. The artworks are in the text, however, it would be beneficial if so you do some research outside. Please answer the following ways each piece serves a purpose: Subject, Style, and Symbolism.  Please make sure that you do both Venn Diagrams!
These should be a review for you!
Thursday, April 12: Assignment #110

Cultural attitudes about women are often revealed in art.

Select and fully identify two works of art that depict one or more women.  The works must come from two different cultures, one of which must be from beyond the European tradition.  Explain how each work reveals its culture's attitudes about women.

Select and fully identify two works that challenged established traditions.  One example must have been produced before 1800 c.e.  Discuss how and why each work constituted a significant challenge to accepted artistic conventions of its time.
Please use an example Chapter 29 and another from your own choosing.

2005 Long Essay Question on Narrative in Art:

Most cultures have made use of art's narrative function.
Select and fully identify four works of art that visually convey a narrative.  Identify the subject of each narrative and discuss the means used to convey the narrative.  

Hint: Who is the narrative about and how is the artist telling that story?

Make sure to use a painting from the correct style, you are only using Chapter 28.
