Monday, September 12: Assignment #1 – “Art Defined”
Using the images that I have printed out, (note: the numbers on the images correspond to the chapter then the image) rank the following slides according to the hierarchy of importance in terms of how they fit your definition of what “Art” is. As you rank these images, use the text book to fully identify the title, date, artist (if known). Make any notations next to the images that you think are necessary.
Be prepared to present your reasons for why you ranked your images the way you did. You will be asked to discuss our choices in class.
If you already bought your sketchbook, please complete this assignment in it, if not, you can complete it on separate pieces of paper to hand in and then attach it in your sketchbook.
Wednesday, September 14: Assignment #2 – The Menu and 4’s sheet
Use the handout to discuss the work on the right. (28-22) Review the information printed in the textbook about the work of art. Complete the menu, select what major themes this work displays, as well as which styles are appropriate under the 2-d category.
Next, on the back of the sheet, complete the “4’s”…Make sure to answer each question to the best of your ability.
Thursday, September 15: Assignment #3 –Ancient Africa Timeline
Please fill in the information that pertains to each heading on the timeline. You will need to read through the chapter to get a good understanding of what periods are important and why they are important.
Friday, September 16: Assignment #4 – Compare/Contrast
Using the Venn diagram, compare and contrast the two images on the sheet. (Images 15-5 and 32-4). Make sure to look at how each work was created, and why. Why is it significant to that culture? Make sure to ID each piece, and answer the question on the bottom of the sheet.
