Venn Diagram (Part 1)

Compare and contrast “The Seated Scribe” (3-14) and “Shakyamuni Buddha” (7-27) with the sheet I provided. Feel free write anywhere on the sheet.

Make sure to look at their purpose/function and  how they differ stylistically. (Color, texture, size, negative space, etc….)

Sketchbook Assignment Due 10/3

 Theme: Family Portraits

Compare and contrast Seated Couple, Dogon (Fig. 34-9) Menkaure and Khamerernebty (Fig. 3-13)

TASK: In your sketchbook, you are comparing the connection between or among works of art. This requires you to understand the periods in which each work was created. Thus, the first thing you must do is read about the historical context and in which each work was created in order to make a meaningful comparison. In your response be sure to discuss the compositional structure and the symbolism of both works in the context of their cultural meaning. You may use your text book as well as outside sources in order to obtain this information.
